The Herons have endured a number of fitness issues early on in the 2024 MLS campaign. Messi has sat out games himself, with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner nursing a hamstring problem, but he has returned with a bang and now has nine goals to his name through as many appearances this season.

Inter Miami have, however, seen Diego Gomez added to an injury list that already includes Facundo Farias, Jordi Alba, Sergii Kryvtsov, Robert Taylor and Federico Redondo, while Benjamin Cremaschi is only now being eased back from an enforced absence.

With that in mind, Paraguay international Matias Rojas is reportedly being lined up for a move to Florida. The 28-year-old midfielder has become a free agent following a contract dispute at Corinthians, with Martino telling reporters when asked if another South American is about to join his ranks: “I can’t talk about players we don’t have. Maybe wait a few more days and then we can talk.”
WHAT NEXT FOR INTER MIAMI?
Inter Miami have time in which to get a deal for Rojas over the line, as they will not be back in action until facing the New England Revolution on April 27. They remain at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference, with Messi bagging a brace and an assist in their 3-1 victory over Nashville.
