According to , Roque's camp turned down an initial contract proposal from Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal after earlier contact between them and Barcelona. Instead, Al-Hilal have enquired about other young strikers, including Aston Villa's Jhon Duran – wanted by West Ham.

Roque arrived at Barcelona from Athletico Paranaense in January but was afforded precious little game time from former coach Xavi – just 319 minutes spread across 14 La Liga appearances. has reported the club would be willing to let the 19-year-old go, but only for a permanent sale in excess of €40 million (£34m/$43m). Al-Hilal were seemingly prepared to do it, as well as offer handsome personal terms, but Roque said no. His determination to prove himself to new Barca boss Hansi Flick comes amid summer interest in Nico Williams and Dani Olmo.
