The DR Congo international’s move from London to Tyneside almost collapsed after he failed to complete one of the required documents. A club representative had to sprint across the training ground to find Wissa, who hurriedly signed the form with just seconds left on the deal sheet extension. Despite the drama, the £55m transfer was officially completed at 8:59pm, just in time for Newcastle to secure their new striker before the extended deadline expired.

Wissa had driven overnight from London to Newcastle to undergo his medical and finalise the deal, having pushed all summer to join the Magpies. Despite Brentford's best efforts, he was eventually allowed to sign for Eddie Howe's side.
